Planning & Implementation of the programme:

This six-month project focused on constructing three check dams across seasonal rivulets in the villages of Talavdi, Surbar and Nani Ubharvan. These dams were built to address two major issues:

1. Harvesting rainwater runoff.
\r\n
2. Recharging groundwater aquifers.
\r\n

These structures would trap and store rainwater which will-

1. Enhance water security for 61 tribal households.
\r\n
2. Foster sustainable agricultural practices.

3. Improve the quality of life for tribal communities.
\r\n

The project was executed In four phases with activities including site identification, community mobilization, technical surveys, and construction of the check dams. Thorough assessments of the geo-hydrological and social context were conducted to ensure the suitability of the interventions.

Mindray India is proud to announce the successful completion of the project “Water Harvesting in Tribal Villages of HaloL Block”.  This project was completed in collaboration with Tata Trusts to address water security and improve the livelihoods of three tribal villages of the Halol block in Panchmahal district, Gujarat.

2. Formation of strong community-based institutions (Water User Groups).
\r\n
3. Various training and capacity-building interventions for water management & conservation.
\r\n
4. SBCC (Social & Behaviour Change Communication) efforts were carried out to build collective action by educating the community about the importance of water.

Community Engagement:

Community participation was central to the project's success. The project team conducted thorough assessments to understand the specific needs and social contexts of the villages. This included:

1. Interactions with community leaders, farmers, and potential farmer groups.
2. Formation of strong community-based institutions (Water User Groups).
3. Various training and capacity-building interventions for water management & conservation.
4. SBCC (Social & Behaviour Change Communication) efforts were carried out to build collective action by educating the community about the importance of water.

The project also emphasized sustainable water management practices. Trainings were held for WUG members on:

• Crop selection based on crop water budgeting.
\r\n
• Creating sensitivity to natural resources like water.
\r\n
• Water-efficient agricultural techniques.
\r\n
• Selecting crops based on water availability and market demands.
\r\n
• Water conservation measures awareness.
\r\n

This knowledge will allow farmers to optimize water usage and ensure the long-term sustainability of the project's benefits.
